The first time I rewrote my story, I didn’t know that’s what I was doing.

It was my first semester in college, and I was taking a public speaking course. The assignment was simple: write and share about someone who inspires you. I wrote about my mom. I wrote about her courage to leave her home country and come to the US, and how she only spoke Spanish, yet was one of the smartest, most disciplined people I knew. For the first time in my life, I said this out loud in a room, on purpose, and to strangers.

For years before that, I hid details like these out of my story. From a young age, I had already learned that this was something to be ashamed of. That public speaking assignment is a pivotal memory that changed something in me. I felt, for the first time, what it means to stop hiding and start owning your story and rewriting your narrative from a place of strength, not shame. 

That is the work I am here to do.

I’m Edith, bilingual author, podcast host, and storyteller on a mission to transform lives through stories.

I am the creator and host of Cultura Convos, a podcast building space for deep, honest conversations about identidad y cultura across cultures, generations, and backgrounds. Cultura Convos will help us continue to write and rewrite our stories from a place of strength so that we can embrace our cultura and all other parts of who we are, because no one identity defines us. 

I am also the author of Two Homes, Dos Casas, a debut children’s book published in bilingual and Spanish-only editions, brought to life after raising $10,000 in one month. Because if a child can see their world reflected back to them early, they don’t have to wait until their 20’s to start becoming proud of who they are.

This work is for those who are proud or becoming proud of where they come from, reconnecting with their roots, and brave enough to leave behind what no longer serves them, all while walking a new path. That tension between honoring the past and forging something new? That is exactly what this space is for. It is what I reflect on constantly. It is what I build toward intentionally.

Here is what I know to be true: identity evolves. It is a lifelong journey. And the best place to start is with your story.

That is why I created Cultura Convos, a space to reflect, reconnect, and return to our stories again and again.
